King Charles, Prince William and Princess Kate have spoken out following the devastating terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, December 14. The attack took place during a Hanukkah celebration that had drawn more than 1,000 people to the seaside. Authorities have confirmed that 16 people lost their lives, including one of the attackers, and dozens more were injured, many of them seriously.

The incident has been described by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as an act of “pure evil, antisemitism and terrorism”. New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon APM confirmed that the attack is being treated as terrorism, sending shockwaves through the Jewish community and the nation as a whole.

Messages from King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales

The Prince and Princess of Wales were among the first members of the royal family to respond publicly. In a joint statement shared on their official X account, they expressed their sorrow and solidarity with Australia.

“Our thoughts are with every Australian today following the terrible attack at Bondi Beach,” the statement read.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives and stand with the Jewish community in grief. We are also thinking about the bravery of the emergency responders, particularly the two injured officers.”

The message prompted an immediate response from followers, many of whom thanked the couple for acknowledging the pain felt across the Jewish community worldwide. Several described the statement as comforting during an unimaginable time.

King Charles, Australia’s Head of State, also released a deeply personal message alongside Queen Camilla. In his statement, the King condemned the attack in the strongest terms.

“My wife and I are appalled and saddened by the most dreadful antisemitic terrorist attack on Jewish people attending the Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach,” he said.
“Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected so dreadfully, including the police officers who were injured while protecting members of their community.”

He went on to praise the actions of emergency services and bystanders, noting that their courage likely prevented further loss of life. The King also spoke of unity, saying that Australia’s sense of community and the symbolic light of Hanukkah would endure despite the darkness of violence.
