She added, “Look at the Duke of Edinburgh and particularly look at the Princess Royal, they didn’t feel like the spares. They’ve gone out there and made it clear they don’t feel second-class in the least and worked hard regardless.”

Bond concluded, “Charlotte and Louis will be very important people with huge privilege and a huge platform, and so they don’t need to feel spare. Just because Harry felt spare, doesn’t mean that his nephews and nieces will feel spare.”

“A normal family” behind palace walls

Although Prince George is first in line to the throne, that does not mean Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are being raised as less important. Prince William and Kate Middleton have consistently emphasized a modern, grounded approach to parenting.

A source previously told the Mirror that visitors would be surprised “to see how ordinarey things are” in the Wales household.

“The children help with laying the table, clearing their plates when they’ve finished eating and helping with tidying up. There’s no preferential treatment.”

William himself addressed this approach back in 2016, explaining that he and Kate aim to give their children as normal an upbringing as possible.

“As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family,” William told the BBC. “I love my children in the same way any father does and I hope George loves me the same way any son does his father. We are very normal in that sense.”
