Security Disputes and Growing Tensions

Strains reportedly intensified ahead of Harry and Meghan’s 2018 wedding when Harry sought additional security for Meghan but was denied by the British Home Office.

Harry later felt that neither his father nor his brother had supported him, believing they “did nothing” to intervene — despite claims that Catherine received enhanced protection during her own courtship with William.

While the Royal Family has never publicly detailed the breakdown in relations that ultimately led to the Sussexes’ departure, Harry and Meghan have spoken openly about their grievances.

In their 2021 interview with Oprah, the couple alleged racism within the Royal Family. Harry later wrote in his 2023 memoir, Spare, that he and William had a physical altercation after William described Meghan as “rude”, “difficult” and “abrasive”.

Last year, Harry — who continues to campaign for taxpayer-funded security in the UK — told the BBC that there have been “so many disagreements” within the family.

However, he maintained that the “only thing that’s left” is the dispute over his security, describing it as having “always been the sticking point.”
