Security Concerns Remain a Major Obstacle
Despite the potential plans, one major issue could block the couple’s return: uncertainty over whether their right to armed police protection in the UK will be restored.
Harry lost a court challenge last May after appealing a decision by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee to remove taxpayer-funded security for himself and Meghan following their departure from royal duties. Under the current arrangement, the couple must notify Metropolitan Police officials at least 30 days in advance of any UK visit so that security measures can be considered.
Harry argued in court that this requirement would make it difficult for his wife and children to visit family in Britain, but the appeal was dismissed. The Prince later described the outcome as “devastating” and part of a “good old fashioned establishment stitch up,” placing blame on elements within the monarchy.
