Kate publicly revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and later confirmed she was in remission in January 2025. She has since spoken about how recovery can be harder than treatment itself, describing the period after chemotherapy as deeply challenging. During that time, the family remained in Adelaide Cottage, having chosen Windsor for privacy and a calmer upbringing for their children.

Forest Lodge now offers a very different scale of living. The eight bedroom Georgian property was built in the 1770s and expanded in the early 1900s. It features grand period details, marble fireplaces, ornate plasterwork, Venetian windows, and even a ballroom and tennis court. Renovations were approved by local planning authorities, including minor interior changes and restoration work. All costs for the move and upgrades are understood to be privately funded by William and Kate.

Sources say the couple plan to live at Forest Lodge until William becomes king. It is intended as a true family base rather than a temporary residence.

And inside that large historic house, among grand corridors and high ceilings, there is now a child’s bedroom with a bed full of teddies. A small, warm detail that quietly reminds everyone that behind the royal titles, it is still a family building a home.
