The Tindalls have long enjoyed close relationships with both the Prince and Princess of Wales and the York sisters. However, the continuing fallout from the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Epstein scandal has placed the wider royal family under increasing strain, raising the prospect of challenging decisions in the months ahead.

Most recently, Andrew was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The precise details of the allegations under investigation have not been made public.

Loyalty to the Monarchy

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams suggested that if tensions were to intensify, Zara and Mike’s loyalty would ultimately rest with the future king and queen.

“If it came to choosing, Zara and Mike would naturally support William and Catherine,” he told the Daily Mail. He added that their loyalty, like Princess Anne’s, is “first and foremost to the monarchy at all times.”

The release of the latest Epstein files has also drawn Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie into sharp public focus, despite neither facing any accusations of wrongdoing.

The sisters were reportedly mentioned in a batch of documents released on January 30.

“If it came to choosing, Zara and Mike would naturally support William and Catherine.”

Beatrice and Eugenie Under Scrutiny

Emails said to be from their mother, Sarah Ferguson, appear to show her referring to Epstein as a “legend” and “like a brother”.

The documents further suggest Ferguson travelled to see Epstein in Miami following his release from prison in 2009, with Beatrice and Eugenie — then aged 20 and 19 — allegedly present.

Fitzwilliams observed that the York sisters now find themselves in an extremely uncomfortable situation.

“Beatrice and Eugenie are now drawn into the line of fire,” he said.

He acknowledged there is “sympathy for them,” but noted that their parents’ links to Epstein have inevitably created repercussions.

Sources close to the sisters have reportedly described them as “aghast” and “mortified” over the emails and images connected to Epstein.

Zara and Mike’s Public Standing

Unlike senior working royals, Zara and Mike do not hold royal titles and have developed successful commercial careers. Their strong public appeal has helped them maintain a relatable and well-regarded image — something Fitzwilliams believes they will want to safeguard.
