Elise leaned down and whispered something toward the wall before forcing Noah to remain there as he struggled.
It wasn’t something supernatural.
It was trauma.

Further digging revealed Elise had used false identification and had prior reports of mistreating children. Authorities were notified immediately. She was arrested within days.
After her removal, Noah refused to sleep in his room. Michael moved his son’s bed beside his own. Gradually, through therapy and patience, the fear began to fade.
The corner was repainted bright yellow. Toys filled the space. Laughter slowly returned.
Months later, Noah was building block towers in the living room, smiling freely again.
Michael still checks on him at night sometimes.
Not because he fears ghosts in the walls—
But because he understands now that the real danger had never been imaginary.
It had been human.
